WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security announced an additional $64.2 million for Hurricane Helene recovery project reimbursements in Western North Carolina. This funding brings the amount released to more than $228 million in the last two months.

Washington, DC – At a meeting about securing additional funding and continuing North Carolina’s recovery, Congressman Chuck Edwards called on Governor Josh Stein to encourage Democrats in Congress to work across party lines to avert a government shutdown given the disastrous effect a halt in government operations would have on recovery efforts in Western North Carolina one year after Hurricane Helene.

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) led an amendment that will direct the United States Postal Service (USPS) to produce a plan on how they will reopen closed facilities and reestablish service in Western North Carolina.  This amendment was included in the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2026 and was approved by the Committee with a vote of 35 to 28.

CHEROKEE, NC – Earlier this month, a tribal military honor ceremony was held to recognize Cabe Monroe Lambert, the last living World War II veteran of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Born on September 25, 1926, Mr. Lambert served with distinction in the United States Army during World War II. As a service member with the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Combat Operations, he fought against the Japanese advance, contributed to the liberation of island communities, and helped to halt the spread of tyranny during one of history’s darkest chapters.
