Congressional App Challenge

The Congressional App Challenge is the official computer science competition of the House of Representatives. Since its inception in 2013, the Congressional App Challenge has grown to become the most prestigious prize in computer science. Over 30,000 students have participated in the Congressional App Challenge across 308 Congressional Districts in 49 states and five U.S. territories.

The Congressional App Challenge is a competition aimed at encouraging middle and high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The Challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education.

General rules are as follows:

  • Students must live or attend school in NC-11.

  • Students must be in middle or high school at the time of submission.

  • Students can compete as individuals or teams of up to four students.

The deadline to submit the completed application is November 1st.

Students must register before submitting their application. Students can register on the Congressional App Challenge Website.

Rewards:

Winning apps will be displayed in the US Capitol Building and featured on the House of Representatives website.

Winning students are invited to the #houseofcode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington DC.

Important dates:

November 1st – Students completed applications are due by 12pm EST.

December 2023 – Winners chosen and publicly announced.

January 15th – The congressional App Challenge website will be updated with the winners.
