Edwards Honors WWII Veteran, Cabe Monroe Lambert, for His Service
CHEROKEE, NC – Earlier this month, a tribal military honor ceremony was held to recognize Cabe Monroe Lambert, the last living World War II veteran of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Born on September 25, 1926, Mr. Lambert served with distinction in the United States Army during World War II. As a service member with the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Combat Operations, he fought against the Japanese advance, contributed to the liberation of island communities, and helped to halt the spread of tyranny during one of history’s darkest chapters.
U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) joined Mr. Lambert's family, Principal Chief Michell Hicks, and other members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to formally honor his service. During the ceremony, Congressman Edwards presented Mr. Lambert with an official entry into the Congressional Record recognizing his heroic contributions and an American flag that was flown over the United States Capitol in his honor.
“Mr. Lambert is one of the honorable men and women who answered the call of the free world and stood in defense of liberty at a time when it was under grave threat. His bravery helped protect not only our nation, but countless people across the world. We owe him a debt that can never fully be repaid but must always be remembered,” said Congressman Edwards.
Mr. Lambert is deeply cherished by his community and family. His service stands as a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism, and he remains a powerful symbol of strength and resilience.
