Edwards calls on White House to help provide temporary housing post-Helene
U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) announced today that his office is calling on the White House to help provide temporary housing in Western North Carolina in a timely manner following reports that it took the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) five months to provide temporary housing in Louisiana and a year in Maui, Hawaii.
There are currently 2,581 families displaced by Hurricane Helene, and counties in Western North Carolina requested 1,180 FEMA trailers.
Edwards said, “With winter approaching, time is of the essence and Western North Carolina cannot afford for FEMA to take as long as it did with Louisiana and Maui for citizens to get the temporary housing that they need. I am calling on the White House to help obtain temporary housing for folks in our mountains and will not stop pressing this issue until this basic need is met.”
