Edwards Announces Additional $64.2 Million for Hurricane Helene Relief
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) released the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security announced an additional $64.2 million for Hurricane Helene recovery project reimbursements in Western North Carolina. This funding brings the amount released to more than $228 million in the last two months.
“As we near the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene striking our region, Western North Carolina is finally getting the help we desperately need,” said Congressman Edwards. “Since September 27, 2024, my primary focus has been pushing for federal investment in Helene recovery. I am grateful to President Trump and Secretary Noem for delivering on critical reimbursements for ongoing rebuilding projects. We still have a great deal of work to do, and I will continue working with the administration to ensure our mountain communities receive every dollar we need.”
These funds will be distributed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support more than 200 state and local recovery projects. These projects include infrastructure restoration, debris removal, and road repairs.
FEMA has approved nearly $390 million in Public Assistance reimbursements to support recovery efforts in North Carolina this year.
Constituents having issues with FEMA are encouraged to contact Congressman Edwards’ team for assistance at 223-FIX-FEMA.
