Congressman Edwards Introduces Resolution Honoring the Victims and Communities Affected by Hurricane Helene

September 24, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Edwards introduced a resolution honoring the victims of and communities affected by Hurricane Helene, particularly those in North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District.

This resolution comes just before the one-year anniversary of the storm, which brought unimaginable destruction to the mountains of Western North Carolina. Families were displaced from their homes, roads and bridges were swept away, and schools, hospitals, and churches were severely damaged.

In the face of this tragedy, extraordinary levels of courage and compassion were on display across the region from emergency management personnel, community organizations, faith-based groups, and neighbors.

“I’ll never forget the destruction and grief my neighbors and I experienced after September 27th, 2024,” said Congressman Edwards. “As we near the one-year anniversary, I honor the victims of Helene and those still working to rebuild. Come Helene or high water, we will prevail.”

All members of the North Carolina House delegation joined Congressman Edwards in support of the resolution.
