Edwards contrasts Biden’s SOTU address with Republican vision for America

March 7, 2024

U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) issued the following statement following President Biden’s State of the Union address to Congress today.

“I had hoped President Biden would have addressed the reality that the cost of living for Western North Carolina families is making it harder than ever to make ends meet. He tries to convince us that things are getting easier, but our pocketbooks know better. I’m hard pressed to hear from anyone who says they’re better off today than they were four years ago.

“I’d like to have heard more specifics about his plans to ease our deadly border crisis, rising crime, national debt exceeding $34 trillion and our emboldened adversaries in Beijing, Tehran and Moscow.

“Despite the president’s attempt to paint a different picture of reality during his State of the Union address, Western North Carolinians can see that his leadership has led our nation from crisis to crisis.

“Americans are paying the price for Biden’s disastrous agenda. Illegal immigrants and fentanyl are flowing across our border, crime is surging in our communities, the savings of hard-working Western North Carolinians are being drained, and America’s standing on the world stage is weakening.

“Citizens across the country are suffering because of the president’s failed policies. Even if we were to close the border today, Americans will be paying the price for this administration’s open borders for decades to come.

“We are at a critical juncture in which the decisions of our nation’s leaders will either put us back on a path that leads to more freedom, security and opportunities for all Americans or on a trajectory that will lead to devastating and irreversible consequences.”
