Each year, Rep. Edwards nominates outstanding high school graduates from the 17th Congressional District of Texas for consideration for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Connecticut; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. The selection process is very competitive and is based on scholastic and athletic records, involvement in community activities, and leadership potential. Applicants are reviewed by the 17th Congressional District Academy Review Board. Nominations are open to residents of the 17th Congressional District who are between the ages of 18 and 22 years of age before July 1 of the year of admission. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens and unmarried, with no dependents. If you are interested, please look at our fact sheet.
